e have two toddler rooms called Buttercup and Snowdrop; these rooms cater for children aged one to two years.

In Buttercup, staff follow a free-play philosophy where toddlers learn through play and have free flow access to the outdoors. Activities are planned based on children’s interests and abilities using the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum as guidance.

In this room, children are able to make decisions and develop their self-help skills. Staff use rich dialogue when communicating with children to introduce and maintain language development. Each child has a key person who builds strong relationships with each toddler and their parents to ensure there is continuity between the home and school. This enables staff to know the child well and pick up on non-verbal gestures. Children begin to learn about being part of a group; staff encourage children to turn take and share with their peers as they begin to make friendships.

Activities available each day include: music and movement, home corner and creative development. There is also time for messy play, play dough, role play, sand play, threading, baking, books, clay, as well as mathematical and literacy games. Mat times are planned twice daily to encourage and develop their concentration skills enabling children to follow instructions.

Children sleep on a mattress after lunch. They may not sleep as long as they do at home due to the exciting range of activities on offer.
